Pregnancy

Many future mothers, and even members of their healthcare team, don’t see or understand the relationship between chiropractic care and pregnancy. Yet, having an optimal functioning nervous system and the best structural support is very important for both mother and the developing child. Chiropractic care prior to conception, has helped many women regulate proper menstrual cycle and uterine function.

With chiropractic care for pregnant patients, the doctor has four goals to accomplish:  1) help the body stay in better balance, 2) maintain optimal structural alignment of the spine and pelvis, and 3) decrease the chance of uterine constraint and 4) promote efficient function of the nervous system. This is extremely important because the nervous system is the master control system of the body, it regulates and controls all other life systems within us, including the reproductive system.  There have been numerous couples who thought they were infertile or suffered with infertility problems that have been helped by restoring proper nerve supply to reproductive organs through specific, natural chiropractic care.

pregnancy heart handDuring pregnancy, a women goes through many hormonal changes, often causing the ligaments to become lax (loose) which causes pelvic bones and spinal bones to shift out of alignment easier and creates muscle imbalances. Regular chiropractic care during pregnancy maintains the best biomechanical balance, proper alignment and encourages optimal nervous system function.  Many women state that while under chiropractic care they experience less morning sickness, move better and/or have better flexibility, and suffer less low back and pelvic pain during their pregnancy. Pregnant women under care of a chiropractor are less likely of having a breeched presentation during the last trimester.

In more than 30% of cases nationwide, women undergo a Caesarean delivery.  While in some cases during a pregnancy a child may be found to be in some form of breeched position in the womb, every opportunity must be given to allow them to change position.  Even if they are lying upside down or sideways instead of head down just weeks or days before the projected due date, there is a unique technique that has proven highly successful in promoting proper fetal position.   Dr. Creech is certified in the Webster Chiropractic Technique that is specifically performed on a mom with in-utero constraint (breech presentation).  If this presentation occurs, he will perform an exam on mom and give specific adjustments as necessary, restoring alignment, helping decrease uterine constraint and ultimately allowing the child to turn on its own to a natural birthing position (head down).  When pelvic alignment is properly restored, it decreases any uterine constraint creating the most comfortable position for the child thus the optimal environment for the birthing process. Mothers who are adjusted by a chiropractor have reported shorter, less traumatic births. This makes for an “easier” birthing process because mom has the best muscle balance, spinal alignment and nerve supply possible, allowing naturally smooth movement by the child through the birth canal.
