ELECTRICAL MUSCLE STIMULATION in Apex NC
Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) is a treatment method being used to reduce pain, swelling, and recovery time. This increasingly popular treatment works well for soft tissue injuries, muscle spasms, and even for athletes who want quicker recovery from workouts.
How Does Electrical Muscle Stimulation Work?
This treatment is performed here in our office, and usually only takes a few minutes. Electrodes are placed on the skin over the affected area, and the machine is turned on. An electrical current is then transmitted into the soft tissue or muscle. The level of current used depends on the injury, its location, and how deep the therapy will be. This electrical current causes the muscles to experience very small but quick contractions. During the treatment, patients may feel a prickly or tingling sensation; however, these sensations will subside after the machine is turned off, or shortly afterward. Many patients enjoy the sensation.
Electrical muscle stimulation creates tiny contractions in the muscles so they become tired and relax, relieving pain and muscle spasms. In addition, it triggers the release of endorphins, which are our body’s natural pain reliever. The process is also said to clear metabolic waste so nutrients can be better delivered and soft tissue can heal more quickly.
Back muscles and neck muscles are common locations for EMS; however, there are many areas of the body that can experience the benefits of this treatment.
Electrical muscle stimulation works well for both acute and chronic pain. If you have been struggling with pain or have recently suffered an injury, ask your chiropractor if electrical muscle stimulation is right for you.
HYDROTHERAPY BEDS
Hydrotherapy: Similar to a powerful shower massage without getting wet, Hydrotherapy water massage uses waves of heated water to provide an innovative experience that's a great complement to chiropractic care. Hydrotherapy water massage benefits in chiropractic clinics include:
- Provides temporary relief of minor aches and pains
- Reduces levels of stress and anxiety
- Deep relaxation provides a feeling of well-being
- Increases circulation in local areas where massaged
- Relieves muscle soreness, stiffness, and tension
- A session on a Hydrotherapy bed is normally 10 minutes.
INTERSEGMENTAL TRACTION
An Intersegmental traction table, or a roller table, is used in chiropractic care to mobilize the spine and restore proper ranges of motion softly putting the spinal column in motion while simultaneously stretching the other components that affect the spine's health, namely the muscles and ligaments The Intersegmental traction table completes multiple different tasks all at once by gently tractioning open adjacent segments of the spinal column healing nutrients and water can enter the discs and joints.
IASTM
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization is a technique often used with specialized instruments that allow more direct treatment of the soft tissues involved with movement. IASTM can involve broad or targeted treatments. By using different tools and angles, the provider can focus on a specific layer of soft tissue during treatment. Common conditions that IASTM are used for are: Breaking up scar tissue, muscle/ligament strains or sprains, tendonitis or tendinopathy, and restricted ROM.
Cupping
Cupping is an ancient medical technique that uses suction to draw blood to or away from specific areas of your body. We mostly use cupping to relieve conditions that cause pain and to increase range of motion. It also has been shown to help with chronic health issues. Cupping can help aid in symptoms/conditions like: Arthritis, Back pain, Neck pain, Extremity pain, Headaches/Migraines, and Sprains/Strains of muscles and ligaments.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release Technique is a soft tissue method that works on relieving tension of the soft tissues by removing adhesions that develop from overuse. The main goal of myofascial release is to restore motion in the adhesive soft tissues for increased range of motion. MRT can also be used to help with entrapped nerves, vasculature, and lymphatics. By having the patient go through an active range of motion, the provider can work with the body in improving the function of that muscle. Typically, we will follow this up with stability/strength exercises to make sure the patient can be stronger in the new range of motion.
